Top 10 money saving tips
1. Knapp reckons voice systems typically show an increase in picking performance of up to 35 per cent over paper picking and up to 15 per cent over hand-held scanner operations
2. Jez Tongue claims @logistics Reply’s Click Reply system can be deployed in around half the time it takes to implement a traditional WMS solution and is some 40 per cent cheaper in total.
3. Orion reckons customers can save money by replacing multiple communication and data processing systems with a single product. The company highlights its PathFinder product which can handle all internal data, external communications and document requirements. Orion says this cuts the cost of multiple software licences, and the operational cost of maintaining staff skills on several different packages.
4. Cirrus advises companies to try operational changes out in theory before the expense of putting them it into practice.
5. According to OBS Logistics, an effective Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) solution for monitoring and managing the deployment, performance and maintenance of company assets may be the single most important tool for preventing operational surprises and uncovering hidden profits. The company quotes one user as saying: “Following our use of EAM and lean practices, we’ve realised ten to 11 per cent efficiency improvements, and our maintenance costs have dropped by five to ten per cent.”
6. Management metrics, including real-time inventory tracking and executive dashboard tools allow supply chain executives to measure the success of their operation and the productivity of their people, according to Lance Bennett, operations director, Delta Software. “This is why it is possible for WMS systems to pay for themselves in months rather than years.”
7. Renovotec believes having a service package can help reduce the cost of unexpected repair charges. "We recently received a bill of over £700 from a manufacturer just for replacing a scan engine in a mobile device. To avoid this, Renovotec has introduced RenovoSure. From as little as £7.50 per device, per month we can offer a service pack which includes accidental damage, collection and return all within five business days."
8. Grimsby Resin Floors reckons customers can save money by using its long life internal lining, which typically has a life of approximately ten years. Plus it offers site visits and subsequent recommendations/quotations free of charge.
9. VoiteQ says it is important to calculate the ROI before purchasing a solution and to invest in solutions that provide a rapid ROI and on-going savings.
10. Voice picking has three key advantages, according to top-VOX. It is ergonomic, since pickers have their hands and eyes free for the essential work steps. It is fast, because the handling of paper lists or MDE devices is no longer necessary. And most important, according to sales director Peter Breens, it is accurate, since every work step is confirmed by voice and verified by the system. “Those improvements in efficiency and accuracy often lead to an ROI of less than a year,” he adds.
