10,000 New Lines for Quinn Radiators

SSI Schaefer's flexible materials handling solutions has allowed Quinn Radiators to double its storage capacity to over 10,000 lines in just under a month.

As an on-going supplier to the Quinn Group across the UK for many years, SSI Schaefer had already installed its R4000 multi-tier modular shelving and PR600 Pallet Racking within Quinn Radiators UK manufacturing facility in Newport, Gwent, back in 2006, when a new stores area was urgently required. However, the quantity of small spare parts for the production machines has since doubled in size.

The multi-tier shelving, with adjustable, bolt-free slot in shelves combined with its flexibility, has served the needs of Quinn Radiators well, which is why they opted for a simple extension to this. Project managed by the Schaefer team, the shelving was extended sideways to accommodate the increased levels of storage and was achieved by removing parts of the existing adjustable pallet racking and bulk storage. SSI Schaefer RK shelf containers were incorporated into the design, maximising the shelving capacity.

SSI Schaefer Project Leader said: "The installation has been completed on time and within budget. It has easy access via three staircases and with the use of a pallet gate on the shelving the customer can now handle many items on the first floor level. Installed alongside some remaining pallet racking, it makes full use of the available storage space within the building."
