Logistics is a key concept because developing effective solutions for logistics operations is different from robotics in assembly and manufacturing, but the differences may not be instantly visible. They depend on understanding material flows through supply chains. This may involve matching a production flow on the one side with a highly variable set of customer orders for a large number of SKUs (Stock Keeping Units) on the other side. IT is critical - and we refer here not only to the system that controls the movement of the robots but also to the material flow, the inventory, the orders on the system and the communication with the other systems that make up the complete supply chain control network. Cimcorp systems are nearly always in critical parts of the supply chain, where customer orders have to be picked correctly, assembled and dispatched in precise time windows. Cimcorp’s systems have been developed to optimize performance both with respect to utilizing the storage capacity within the robot cells and the capacity to pick and assemble the outgoing flow of orders. Via a simple graphical user interface operators can modify the operation as needs arise; changing storage area allocations, changing priorities and so on.
